Morning, start a full day city tour beginning with Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, which contains a rich collection of audio-visual documentation and more than 15,000 artifacts including life-size traditional houses depicting all aspects of life, culture, customs, and belief of the 54 ethnic groups of Vietnam. Continue to the Temple of Literature, known as the first university of Vietnam, built in 1070 by the Ly Dynasty to honor Confucius, sages and outstanding Vietnamese scholars. Afternoon, visit the Ho Chi Minh Complex which features the life of Ho Chi Minh, the nation’s founder. Explore Ba Dinh Square, an important point of pilgrimage for many Vietnamese, the Presidential Palace, Ho Chi Minh Museum and the rural style Ho Chi Minh’s house on stilts where he lived and worked. Stop by one of Hanoi’s icons, the One Pillar Pagoda, built in the 11th Century in dedication to Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara or Buddha of Compassion and reminiscent of a lotus blossom rising from a pond. Move on to one of the following museums of choice namely Hoa Lo museum, which is the leftover of the French Central Prison built in 1896 to detain Vietnamese political prisoners, the Museum of Fine Arts, Vietnamese Women’s Museum, the National Museum of Vietnamese History or the Museum of Revolution. Afterwards, visit Hoan Kiem Lake or “Returned Sword Lake” which originated from a legend of a sacred sword. On an islet in the lake, there locates Ngoc Son Temple which is accessible by a classically red painted wooden bridge. Touring through the Old Quarter, famous for its ancient streets representing traditional trades from the past by cyclo or enjoy a coffee at a local café.

Following breakfast leave Hanoi for a 2.5-hour drive to Ha Long Bay including a 20-minutes stop on the way. Arrive at the jetty in Ha Long City towards noon and proceed with check-in formalities. In the afternoon, enjoy some visits and/or activities (depending on each boat’s itinerary) or just spend some time relaxing on board. From Halong, our tour guide with air-conditioned car will pick you up to transfer to Ninh Binh. It takes 04 hours drive. Start from hotel in Ninh Binh. Belongs to Ninh Hai commune, Hoa Lu district, which far away 10km from Ninh Binh city, Thung Nham (or Thung Chim – Bird Valley) is located in the core area of Trang An, beside the famous tourist area Tam Coc – Bich Dong. In order to come here, almost tourists choose to go to Tam Coc about 4km, through the Sun Valley then continue by road or boat if selecting go through Pagoda cave. You’ll be sure to see here numerous species of birds and the most common ones are the stork, teal, startling and so on. In particular, it is also home to many rare species of birds in the Red Book. After being amazed by the number of birds here, you can get on the small boat spend 2 hours through 3 caves: Chua, Ghe, But (the longest is But cave with 500m) you can see a lot of stalactites with a different shape. Leaving boats to walk on the shore, you can visit orchards, centuries-old banyan tree, primary forests, and aquaculture zones.

Morning, meet our guide at your hotel and transfer to Ninh Binh Province about 100 km South of Hanoi. Head for Hoa Lu to see the few vestiges of the first capital of Vietnam. Built in the 10th Century by the Dinh Dynasty not only for a capital but also as a stronghold against the Northern invaders, Hoa Lu shortly later it was inherited by the Le Dynasty. Visit the two old temples one dedicated to Dinh Tien Hoang, the only king of the Dinh Dynasty and also Vietnam’s first emperor and the other to the succeeding kings of the Le Dynasty. Though the temples are no longer intact, some precious antique carvings and sculpture of stone and wood are still preserved. Then continue to visit Bich Dong pagoda, an ancient three-tiered cave pagoda only accessible by steep stone steps, but it is really worth climbing up for a charming pagoda and stupendous view from the top. Lunch at a local restaurant.

 

Afternoon, take a sampan cruise along the Hoang Long River through the scenic landscape of Tam Coc, a 350 ha area of karst mountains scattered over the lush wetland with paddy fields. This area is referred to as “an inland Ha Long bay” for its strikingly similar water-and-rock terrain features. Depending on the time of visit, you may see local farmers harvesting rice or transplanting seedlings for the new crop. Pass through three big caves which feature the area’s name (Tam Coc means three caves in Vietnamese) and which represent a host of local rocky caves and grottoes.

 

Return to the Hanoi train station and board a night train to Lao Cai, which will arrive in about 8 hours and travel 300 kilometers.

Morning, our driver and guide will pick up you at the train station and transfer to Sapa.

 

Arrival Sapa, transfer by car to the Cable Car station where you will get on cabin and take a 15-minute ride by cable car. At 6292,5m long, this is the longest non-stop three rope cable car in the world. Continue to climb about 600 steps to reach the summit of Mount Fansipan. Spend time to admire the beautiful natural landscape of Sapa, Hoang Lien Son, Muong Hoa valley and the magnificent Hoang Lien Son mountain range. Lunch at a local restaurant.

 

Afternoon, transfer back to Sapa transfer about 30 minutes to Silver Waterfall. The fall, drops from an altitude of 200 meters, is the upstream of Muong Hoa stream. Take a short walk to the waterfall where you can get great views of the surrounding mountains and lush forests of the Hoang Lien Son National Park. The waterfall is best seen in the rainy season from May to November.

 

Continue 10 minutes by car to Heaven Gate, located at the highest point of Tram Ton Pass. At 1900m this is Vietnam’s highest mountain pass, and acts as a dividing line between two weather fronts. From Heaven Gate, you’ll fantastic views of Hoang Lien Son mountain range, and Fansipan Mountain, dubbed as the roof of Indochina at the height of 3,143 meters above sea level. Return to hotel in Sa Pa.

A car will take you 3 km out of Sapa through a hilly landscape to Cat Cat village, home to a community of the Hmong ethnic minority people. The traditional trades of brocade making, and silver and bronze smith are still practiced nowadays by villagers after numerous generations of their ancestors. You can see Hmong women by their looms weaving fabrics. Visit Tien Sa waterfall where a French-built hydropower station has been in service since 1920.

 

Leave Cat Cat village and trek down Muong Hoa valley, one of the most scenic valleys in Northwestern Vietnam stretching over 30 km between two mountain ranges an housing the largest colony of terraced paddy fields in the region. From your entry point to the valley, Lao Chai village of the Black Hmong minority people, cross to its other side of the valley. Arrive in Ta Van village where you will have a chance to observe its inhabitants, the Giay people belonging to a very small minority group only found in Northern highlands of Vietnam. Take a break to enjoy a picnic lunch at a local house before going back to Sapa.

Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park is located in the middle of the Annamite Mountain Range in Quang Binh province, Viet Nam, and shares its boundary with the Hin Namno Nature Reserve of Laos. On an area of 123,326 ha, the park contains terrestrial and aquatic habitats, primary and secondary forest, sites of natural regeneration, tropical dense forests and savanna and is rich in large, often spectacular, and scientifically significant caves. Along the park, there are over 104 km of caves and underground rivers making it one of the most outstanding limestone karst ecosystems in the world. Its karst formation has evolved since the Palaeozoic period (some 400 million years ago) and as such is the oldest major karst area in Asia.

Morning, take a half-day tour to the Cu Chi Tunnels, 75 km Northwest of downtown Ho Chi Minh City, which were once a major underground hideout and resistance base of Viet Cong forces during the two wars against the French and later on Americans. The tunnels, entirely hand-dug, formed a highly intricate network of interlinked multilevel passageways at times stretched as far as the Cambodian border and totaling over 120 km in length. Its complexity was beyond imagination containing meeting rooms, kitchens, wells, clinics, schools, depots, trenches, and emergency exits all aimed for guerrilla warfare. The tunnels were deep and strong enough to withstand destructive bombings and self-contained enough to outlast prolonged sieges. Back to Ho Chi Minh City for lunch.

 

Afternoon, continue the tour to visit Reunification Palace, the home, and the workplace of the President of the South Vietnam; Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica, a neo-Roman cathedral built over 130 years ago by the colonial French with materials entirely imported from Marseilles.

 

Call in Saigon Central Post Office, a fine colonial building which was designed and built in the early 20th Century by the famous French architect Gustave Eiffel. Move on to Cho Lon or the city’s China Town where you will visit the Jade Emperor Temple (Phuoc Hai), a rare Taoist structure in Vietnam built in 1909 in dedication to the Lord of Heaven.

Morning, travel by car to the Mekong Delta, the world’s largest delta and Vietnam’s largest rice bowl.
