Destinations:
During the communist regime of Khmer Rouge, more than 17,000 people were killed in what has come to be known as the “Killing Fields”. This was later portrayed in the Hollywood movie of the same name. Today in this area there is a memorial and museum in remembrance to all the people that were executed. Admission to the Killing Fields includes an excellent audio tour, available in several languages, which includes stories by those who survived the Khmer Rouge.
Angkor is one of the most important archaeological sites in South-East Asia and it is the largest religious monument in the world. Covering an area larger than 400 km2, the Angkor Archaeological Park contains the well - preserved ruins of the capitals of the Khmer Empire, dating back to the 9th century featuring the famous Angkor Wat temple. Angkor Wat is Cambodia’s national symbol and it is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
It is the major tourist hub in Cambodia, as it is the closest city to the world famous temples of Angkor. A visit to Siem Reap is recommended to explore the many markets, shops, restaurants and nightlife;
Phnom Penh, the vibrant capital of Cambodia is situated at the junction of three rivers, the mighty Mekong, the Bassac and the great Tonle Sap. Phnom was once considered the center of Indochina. Today, Phnom Penh remains a charming city with plenty to see. From the glimmering spires of the Royal Palace, the fluttering saffron of the monks’ robes, and French colonial mansions and tree-lined boulevards amidst monumental Angkorian architecture, to lush locations along the banks of the mighty Mekong. Phnom Penh is an existing city known for its Cambodian hospitality that welcomes visitors with open arms.
Sihanoukville (Krong Preah Sihanouk), also known as Kompong Som, is Cambodia’s premier beach destination. Miles of pristine white-sand beaches provide a great tropical getaway. Sihanoukville is a place to unwind, enjoy fresh seafood, snorkel or scuba dive.
